JANUARY

National Oatmeal Month
Hot Tea Month
  • Put together and donate “personal” gift bags to a homeless shelter – a Ziploc bag with a toothbrush, toothpaste, trial sizes of shampoo, lotion, soap, etc.
  • Put together small bags of toiletries for nursing home patients – include instant oatmeal and teabags

MARCH

Poison Prevention Month
National Craft Month
  • March of Dimes – see if there are any activities in your community
  • Offer to work at a local soup kitchen
  • Make slipper socks for young children or nursing home residents
  • Provide poison stickers for food banks or shelters to distribute

MAY

Older Americans Month
Get Caught Reading Month
Flower Month
  • Give a seedling to the residents of a local nursing home
  • Have a special reading day and invite children for punch, cookies and a great story
  • Make small note cards for the elderly

JULY

Hot Dog Month
  • Donate time or goods to a local food bank – their shelves get pretty bare in the summer months
  • Put boxes in local businesses and collect socks for the homeless

SEPTEMBER

Little League Month
Kids Good Manners Month
  • Donate toys to local organizations like Toys for Tots
  • Make trauma dolls, no-sew fleece blankets, or teddy bear finger puppets
  • Take an underprivileged child to a little league baseball game

NOVEMBER

Peanut Butter Lovers Month
Vegan Awareness Month
  • Team up with an organization that sponsors holiday meals and see how you can contribute
  • Collect winter jackets/coats for homeless or local shelters
  • Collect items to send to the military

FEBRUARY

American Heart Month
Children’s Dental Month
  • Random Acts of Kindness
  • Put together a bag of “goodies” for young children – toothbrush, toothpaste, crayons, etc.
  • It’s also “Return Shopping Carts to the Supermarket” Month – you can take it from there

APRIL

Keep America Beautiful Month
Brighten Young Minds Month Community Spirit Month
  • Participate in a local cleanup of a park or highway
  • Read to children at the local library or bookstore (Barnes & Noble is good for this)
  • Donate books to a local library or pre-school

JUNE

Candy Month
Graduation Month
  • Make dinner for the women and children at a shelter, or the parents at a Ronald McDonald House
  • Create a basket of “goodies” for kids in the hospital – include art supplies, small puzzles, plastic cars, find-a-word, yo-yo, etc.

AUGUST

Back to School Month
  • Contact a local school and offer to provide school supplies for children who need them
  • Provide information to grade school teachers about BUG or Terrific Kids
  • Collect Box Tops for Education (each “coupon” is worth 10 cents to the school)
  • Distribute bookmarks to school libraries

OCTOBER

Cookie Month
E-Card Month
  • Volunteer at a local trick-or-treat type event
  • Give Halloween bookmarks as treats for elementary school kids
  • Offer to rake someone’s yard

DECEMBER

Read a New Book Month
Family Holiday Month
  • Sponsor a child so they can have a merry Christmas! (can usually be coordinated through your local food bank)
  • Donate children’s pajamas to local women’s or homeless shelters – socks, too
  • Wrap gifts at Barnes & Noble – accept tips!
  • Sponsor a needy family by providing their holiday meal
  • Collect non-perishable food items and grocery store gift cards for your local food bank
